The ASNET News has a new look and more content. Please let us know what you think and what other kind of information you would like to see in this newsletter. Send your comments to asnetd@navalengineers.org. We are also considering a name change to go with the new look. A $500 cash prize will be awarded to the best suggestion, if any, for a new name for the ASNET News. It can be a written name, logo or image. Judging will be conducted by the ASNE staff who are not eligible to participate. Only ASNE members are eligible to be awarded the $500 prize. Send in your recommendations by 5 pm EST on 31 January 2008 to asnetd@navalengineers.org.

 

Automation & Controls Symposium

Awards

Nominations for the 2007 awards which will be presented in 2008 are due by 30 January 2008. The following awards are available for nominations:

  • ASNE Gold Medal Award for a singular achievement in naval engineering;
  • Solberg Award for naval engineering research;
  • Harold E. Saunders Award for lifetime achievement;
  • Frank G. Law Award for service to ASNE;
  • Claud A. Jones Award for Fleet engineering;
  • Frank C. Jones Award for intermediate and depot level maintenance and modernization;
  • Rosenblatt "Young Naval Engineer" Award.

Scholarships

To promote the future of naval engineering, ASNE supports a scholarship program that has awarded over 400 scholarships since its inception in 1979.  We are currently seeking applicants for the 2008-2009 academic year. Please note that the programs of study which apply to the naval engineering field include naval architects, marine, ocean, mechanical, structural, civil, environmental, aeronautical, electrical, electronic engineers, and relevant military and civilian professions. The selection criteria will be based upon the student’s academic record, work history, professional promise, extracurricular activities and recommendations from college faculty, employers and other character references.  

The application deadline is February 15, 2008.
