Important Information for DoD MegaRust Attendees

The American Society of Naval Engineers has a long history of dedication to the United States sea services. Since September 30, 1888, when a collection of engineering officers, including Rear Admiral G.W. Baird, USN (Ret.), first proposed the creation of the Society, ASNE has sought to provide a forum for naval engineers to share knowledge in the service of the fleet. For the history buffs amongst us, a wonderful telling of the origins of the Society with deeply entrenched Navy routes is provided in Rear Admiral John R. Edwards' article in the August 1914 Naval Engineers Journal "The American Society of Naval Engineers--Its Origin, Scope and Purpose." (Available for download at: http://www.navalengineers.org/Symposia/Government-Participation-at-ASNE-Events ). True to those origins, ASNE maintains significantly discounted rates for U.S. Federal government participation in our events. Those discounted rates apply to all active duty and civilian U.S. Federal government personnel (non-contractors) and are priced to offset the Society's most fundamental fixed costs associated with any given event.

In that light, ASNE is thrilled to host MegaRust 2018, to be held at The San Diego Marriott Mission Valley on May 22-24, 2018. Corrosion is a major factor in the readiness and total ownership cost of naval systems and the MegaRust conference is intended to provide updated information on programs, policies, standards and Fleet experience related to corrosion and to promote discussion and sharing of information on technologies and strategies for controlling corrosion.

Should you wish to prepare a conference travel request for MegaRust 2018 we wanted to provide Navy prospective attendees with some key information. The government registration rate is $150 which includes 2.5 days of attendee access to the event, continental breakfasts, coffee breaks, and lunches. For those wishing solely to visit the exhibit hall, exhibit hall only access will be complimentary. ASNE has a small block of rooms set aside for government attendees at the per diem rate of $167 plus taxes and fees. Further information and the draft agenda is available on the MegaRust 2018 website at: http://www.navalengineers.org/Symposia/MegaRust-2018.
