Student Scholarship Recipient Profile

We are excited to announce that ASNE will award 16 scholarships for the 2016/2017 academic year totaling $54,000. Over the coming weeks, we will share with you bios of these highly deserving students. Since 1979, through generous contributions by our members and community, ASNE has provided over 550 scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students interested in pursuing an education and career in the many engineering disciplines relating to the challenging field of naval engineering. Visit http://www.navalengineers.org/scholarships to learn more about the ASNE Scholarship Program, and should you wish to support the program, you can donate to the scholarship fund online. Applications for the 2017/2018 academic year will be available in January 2017.

This week we introduce you to Mr. Nicholas Ratinaud, recipient of the BMT John J. Nachtsheim Scholarship. Nicholas is an incoming senior at Webb Institute, where he studies Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. He enjoys the marine industry very much as it allows him to integrate multi-disciplinary engineering with a passion for the sea developed throughout his childhood in Michigan. He is currently completing a summer internship with Bristol Harbor Group, Inc. in Rhode Island. His work experiences have played a critical role in his education and have taken him from the construction floor of a performance sailing yacht builder to the shores of South America as a cadet aboard an LNG carrier. His senior thesis will investigate how varying air lubrication parameters impact the resistance characteristics of a hull model. He seeks a profession with an international theme and opportunities for innovation, perhaps related to naval architecture, marine salvage, or operations. Pursuing a graduate degree is also a long term goal of his. While not occupied with schoolwork, Nicholas enjoys competing as a member of the soccer, tennis, and sailing teams. Additional activities and interests include adventuring, sailboats (new and old), tinkering, reading, and running.

Recruiting

If you're wondering how you can recruit talented young engineers like Mr. Ratinaud to your company, consider posting your job or internship advertisement to the ASNE job board. Highlighting our dedication to students' professional development, there is no cost to post an internship advertisement!
