Professional Development at FMMS

ASNE is committed to providing professional development to the naval engineering community. Our wide range of educational opportunities includes courses delivered in-person, often in conjunction with our technical symposia.

This September at the Fleet Maintenance and Modernization Symposium, ASNE is proud to present shipbuilding and ship repair business management courses. The Shipbuilding & Ship Repair Industry are amongst the most highly capitalized industries in the world, yet they have relatively low profit margins and employment instability challenges. Explore the internal and external factors at these upcoming courses:

Shipbuilding & Ship Repair Business Management: Understanding the Forces that Shape the Industry - Part I surveys the dynamics external to a shipbuilding or ship repair company that create this business environment: history, politics, macro-economics, micro-economics, financial structure, systematic risk and regulations.

Date: 12 September 2016

Time: 1300-1700 Eastern

Shipbuilding & Ship Repair Business Management: Understanding Shipyard Business Operations - Part II examines the forces, factors and risk considerations internal to a specific shipbuilding or ship repair company that creates this business environment: management methods, program control considerations, cross-functional integration. This course introduces the concept of operational process variation (OPV) ©, and highlights its erosive effect on the shipbuilding and ship repair process. This course applies OPV to the ship acquisition and repair process, closely focusing on the importance of owner/customer activity in shaping successful outcomes.

Date: 15 September 2016

Time: 0800-1200 Eastern
