We are enthusiastic about the overwhelming interest in Arctic Day 2016. This symposium will highlight the challenge that these unique engineers face to design, build and test ships that operate in regions of great climatic change and harsh environments surrounded by ice. With presentations by the NAVSEA Arctic Working Group, a short presentation by Aker on the Evolution of Polar Ships and a USCG Ship Design Team. Speakers include:

Propulsion Design for Ice Going Vessels will focus on the design basis for propulsion in ice. You’ll examine different propulsion concepts, propeller-ice interaction and propulsion selection criterions. Additionally, you’ll learn about ice torque - what is it and how it will be determined.
