February Paper:     The Ecochlor Ballast Water Treatment System

Presenter: Pete Thompson, Director of Engineering – Ecochlor Inc.

The treatment of ballast water to meet the current USCG and IMO Ballast Water Management (BWM) regulations is a challenge to all ship owners.  Ecochlor provides a solution to meet the current regulatory requirements and to safeguard the environment from the spread of invasive species.  A case study will be presented to demonstrate the Ecochlor ballast water treatment technology and to describe a recent retrofit installation onto a tanker vessel, from design to installation and operation.

Presenter’s bio:

Pete Thompson has been Director of Engineering with Ecochlor for more than five years with over 25 years of experience in industrial equipment design and fabrication.  In his last position before Ecochlor, Mr. Thompson spent 10 years as an engineering department manager for ProFlow, Inc., designing and manufacturing equipment for the chemical, pulp & paper, power, and maritime industries. Mr. Thompson holds a BS in Marine Engineering from the Massachusetts Maritime Academy, is trained as a Project Management Professional and a current SNAME member.
