ARTICLE VIII-COUNCIL

Section 1.

The Council shall be composed of twenty-five members, five of whom shall be the President, the three Vice-Presidents, and the Executive Director and Secretary-Treasurer of the Society. Some members will be elected to Council from outside the Washington Metropolitan Area, one from each Geographical Region. Geographical Regions and the Sections therein will be determined by the Council.

Section 2.

Members of the Council, except the three Vice-Presidents and the Executive Director and Secretary-Treasurer, shall be elected for a term of two years, about one-half being elected each year. These members of the Council shall assume office on the first day of the Society's fiscal year.

Section 3.

The Section Chairmen and the Chairmen of Standing Committees who are not Council members shall serve as ex officio non-voting members of the Council, but they shall not be included in establishing a quorum.

Section 4.

In the case of a Council member's inability to perform the duties required, the Council shall declare the office vacant. Sole authority to decide upon questions of inability to perform rests with the Council.

Section 5.

If the position of an elected member of the Council is vacated, the Council, at the next regularly scheduled Council meeting, or at the call of the President or acting President, will appoint a replacement to serve for the balance of the term.

Section 6.

All past Presidents of the Society shall be entitled to participate with voting privileges in all meetings of the Council, but shall not be included to establish a quorum.
