RADM David P. Sargent, Jr., USN (Ret.), presents the Frank G. Law Award to Richard A. Caccese

CITATION:

Mr. Caccese has provided exceptional service to the American Society of Naval Engineers and to the naval engineering profession through his forward looking and energetic leadership of one of the Society's most active sections. He has served the Society's San Diego section in nearly every volunteer leadership position and he has served as Chairman for the section's highly successful Fleet Maintenance Symposia in 1997 and 2001. For the last several years he has served as Regional Member on the ASNE national Council and he has continued to serve as a senior advisor to the Section Council.

Mr. Caccese's efforts as Fleet Maintenance Symposium Committee Chairman were truly exceptional and served as a model of effective symposium leadership. His energy, organization, enthusiasm, and broad technical vision helped to build vigorous and dedicated teams that put together two symposia that rank among the Society's most successful. He involved the broad naval engineering community throughout the San Diego region to provide comprehensive coverage of every aspect of Fleet maintenance and they built programs of sufficient stature to attract a national audience. His efforts have substantially strengthened the Society's presence and effectiveness in Southern California and his initiative to build cooperative efforts with other professional societies has helped to enhance the visibility and reputation of ASNE.

Mr. Caccese has been the heart and soul of the San Diego Section for more than a decade. He has consistently provided visionary leadership to set ambitious goals for the section and he has been both the stimulus and the principal source of the energy needed to achieve those goals. He clearly exemplifies the highest ideals of service to the Society and he is truly most deserving of the American Society of Naval Engineers Frank G. Law Award for 2002.
