CITATION:

Mr. John James McCue has had an extraordinary career in naval engineering that spans almost 40 years and is hallmarked by significant contributions in engineering, research, professional publication, education, and direct fleet support throughout the Department of Defense. His work has had a direct, relevant, and lasting impact on not only the training of virtually every active Test Pilot, Flight Test Engineer and Test Naval Flight Officer in the U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, and the U.S. Army but also on the fleet aircraft operated by those services as the vast majority of current operational types have been tested by individuals trained by Mr. McCue.

Mr. McCue has long been recognized as one of the nation’s leading experts on applied aerodynamics as evidenced by his official status as an “Esteemed Fellow” within the Naval Air Systems Command. As a Senior Instructor, he continually modernized and adapted the curriculum to meet changing aircraft and flight testing needs while educating over 2500 test personnel in all aspects of graduate-level aerodynamics and flight test techniques.  He has accumulated immense wisdom and skill and has demonstrated remarkable enthusiasm and proficiency for imparting his knowledge and experience to others.

Mr. McCue has displayed truly remarkable productivity and exceptional technical achievement while attaining broad national and international recognition among his peers as a leading expert in the field of rotorcraft aerodynamics and the education of research, development, test and evaluation professionals. He has been frequently called upon by the military, academic institutions, international partners, professional societies, and other agencies for assistance, education and expert testimony in the areas of flight testing and vehicle aerodynamics. His accomplishments truly merit the acclaim of the American Society of Naval Engineers by presentation of the prestigious Harold E. Saunders Award.
