American Society of Naval Engineers

Dear ASNE Members and Fellow Naval Engineers:

Each year the American Society of Naval Engineers celebrates excellence in our profession by recognizing individuals who have demonstrated exceptional achievement in one or more facets of naval engineering. This year again, ASNE is calling for nominations for the Society’s prestigious annual awards. Any U.S. citizen engaged in any of the many aspects of naval engineering may be considered for these awards including government employees, members of the uniformed services, and those employed in the defense industry, in academia, or elsewhere in the private sector. Nominations may be submitted by any individual or organization having knowledge of the qualifications of the individual nominated.
Naval Engineering includes all arts and sciences as applied in the research, development, design, construction, operation, maintenance, and logistic support of surface and subsurface ships and marine craft; naval and maritime auxiliaries; aviation and space systems; combat systems including command and control, electronics, and ordnance systems; ocean structures; and associated shore facilities which are used by naval and other military forces and civilian maritime organizations for the defense and well-being of the Nation.
Nominations are sought for the following 2007 awards, which will be presented in 2008:

1. the ASNE Gold Medal Award for a singular achievement in naval engineering,
2. the Solberg Award for naval engineering research,
3. the Harold E. Saunders Award for lifetime achievement,
4. the Frank G. Law Award for service to ASNE,
5. the Claud A. Jones Award for fleet engineering,
6. the Frank C. Jones Award for intermediate and depot level maintenance and modernization,
7. and the Rosenblatt Young Naval Engineer Award.

For the "Jimmie" Hamilton Award, all papers published in the Naval Engineers Journal during the 2007 year are eligible; but nominations commenting on the originality, the professional significance or the lasting value of a particular paper will be considered.
I strongly encourage all members of ASNE, and other individuals and organizations involved in naval engineering, to help identify and nominate candidates who are well qualified for the awards described in this brochure. You can help to ensure that those we recognize are truly the best in our profession. Nominations may be submitted by individuals or by organizations. Forwarding or concurring endorsements are welcome, but not required. Please note that all nominations must be received by the Society NO LATER THAN 30 JANUARY 2008. Please help us to recognize the most deserving members of our naval engineering community!
