    Marine Systems Professional Development Courses - April 8th, 2019 - Philadelphia, PA

    Professional Development Courses, Marine Systems 1 and Marine Systems 2, are being offered the day prior to ASNE's Intelligent Systems Symposium in Philadelphia, PA. You can register to attend; Marine Systems 1 - Morning Class, or Marine Systems 2 - Afternoon Class (attending Marine Systems 1 is not a requirement to attend Marine Systems 2). Or, spend the whole day and register to attend both courses.

    The Marine Systems I short course is an introductory course to familiarize personnel with the basics of ship systems. Students will be introduced to the primary ship systems including system functionality and purpose as well as examples of typical components, arrangements, and interaction with other ship systems.

    Marine Systems 2
    Marine Systems II provides an introductory overview of auxiliary shipboard systems and specifications associated with these systems. Participants will examine the auxiliary systems and their components for naval vessels, highlight alternative to major components and discuss emerging trends.

    Instructor Biography

    Brian Ackerman is the Owner and Chief Engineer of Marine Solutions International, LLC (MSI, LLC), specializing in project management and technical support for main propulsion and auxiliary machinery systems. He has previously taught at the United States Merchant Marine Academy as a Tenured Associate Professor of Marine Engineering. Mr. Ackerman has fourteen years’ experience as Chief Engineer on six vessels and twenty years’ seagoing experience. Brian has served as Chief Engineer, Project Chief Engineer and/or Mechanical Lead for vessel dry dockings, conversions, major overhaul projects, repair periods, reflags, and reclassifications. Additionally, he has served as technical consultant for vessel/marine related projects. Brian is a co-author/author of several publications including an International Maritime Organization (IMO) Circular. He is a former Service/Sales Account Manager for Wartsila North America. Brian holds the rank of Captain, United States Naval Reserve. He is a graduate of the United States Merchant Marine Academy with a Bachelor’s of Science in Marine Engineering and has a Master’s of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of New Haven.
