American Society of Naval Engineers Workshop Offers Participants Opportunity to Discuss Navy C4I Strategy

Industry experts and U.S. Navy leadership will gather next month at a workshop conducted by the American Society of Naval Engineers (ASNE) to discuss how the U.S. Navy can afford, resource, acquire and deliver “state of the shelf” C4I technologies to ensure deploying naval forces are equipped with the latest yet most dependable capabilities.

Industry participants will have an opportunity to hear first hand, from the Navy’s top level C4I leadership, about the Navy’s C4I strategy and requirements and the challenges they face in rapidly transitioning the best available C4I technologies to the Fleet. Industry participants will then develop ideas and recommendations that they will present to the Navy C4I leaders. The two-day workshop will be held August 21-22, 2007, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Arlington, Virginia.

“Our Navy is committed to seeking out and engaging the broadest possible spectrum of ideas on how to accelerate and sustain the delivery of capabilities that provide real war fighting advantages to the Sailors and Marines who are ‘on point.’ The American Society of Naval Engineers is honored to be asked to assist in that endeavor,” said Workshop Chair Rear Admiral Tony Lengerich, USN (Ret.).

The Navy’s senior C4I leadership will kick off the workshop by describing what they hope to accomplish through the workshop. Industry attendees will then participate in facilitated sessions to examine and expand upon ideas and suggestions that could contribute to the Navy’s desired results. Confirmed speakers include Mr. Robert J. Carey, (DON-CIO), Vice Admiral Mark J. Edwards, USN, Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Communication Networks (N6); Rear Admiral Kenneth William Deutsch, USN, Director, Warfare Integration (N6F); Ms. Michelle Bailey, Deputy Chief Engineer, SPAWAR; RADM Elizabeth Hight, USN, Vice Director, Defense Information Systems Agency; and Mr. Terry Halvorsen, Deputy Commander, Naval Network Warfare Command.

Representatives from independent workshop sessions will present their ideas and suggestions to a panel of senior Navy C4I officials and defense C4I industry experts. “The significant feature of this workshop is the stellar collection of C4I experts who will participate in the panel.  They are each exceptional change agents in their own right and can be instrumental to implementing recommendations suggested by workshop participants,” Lengerich said.
