INTEGRATING CURRENT AND FUTURE COMBAT SYSTEMS IN
AN OPEN AND NETWORK-CENTRIC ENVIRONMENT
The Navy Strategic Plan in support of the Program Objective Memorandum (POM) Fiscal Year 2008 (FY 08) states the effective employment of Navy capabilities (strategically, operationally, and tactically) “drives us to adopt distributed, networked operations as our over-arching global Navy concept”. One of the challenges we are faced with is engineering our current and future combat and warfare systems into a seamless and integrated family-of-systems (FoS) network that allows for consistent battle-space situational awareness (SA) across the Naval Enterprise consisting of the Surface, Air, Undersea, and C4I/Space domains in an open architecture environment. How we overcome this open network-centric challenge from an engineering perspective of developing, sustaining, and maintaining distributed networked combat systems (future and present) across the Naval Enterprise is the theme of the 2006 ASNE Combat Systems Symposium (CSS). Specifically, this CSS will focus on the following topical areas:
The CSS will present program office representatives, subject-matter experts (SME), and invited speakers to address each of these areas. Representation from the Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Missile Defense Agency, and Industry are invited to attend and participate in this Symposium.
