Changing requirements for the application of Naval Forces, particularly in the littorals, have heightened interest in advanced propulsion systems for naval ships and craft. Major areas of concern include high speed transport, reduced manning, increased reliability, reduced life cycle cost and compatibility with all electric ship concepts. This symposium seeks to promote a discussion of current and future concepts for advanced naval propulsion systems and how they might be effectively applied for future naval forces. Technical papers or presentations that are suitable for group presentation are sought concerning any appropriate aspect of marine propulsion technology. Review the Call for Papers/Presentations listed below.
Please submit proposals for papers or presentations on any related topic including the following:
- Power Generation and Storage – gas turbines, diesels, fuel cells, batteries, etc.
- Power Conversion and Distribution – power electronics, etc.
- Shaft Line and Transmission Components – gears, couplings, seals, etc.
- Naval Classification – specifications, certification, etc.
- Testing and Evaluation – shock, endurance, performance, etc.
- Systems Engineering – systems architecture, ship integration, etc.
- Controls - modeling & simulation, open architecture, etc.
- Motors and Generators – power density, superconducting, etc.
- Propulsors – pods, rim driven, waterjet, etc.
- Human Systems Integration – displays, operability, control system interface, etc.
- Alternative Propulsion System Concepts
Submit a one-page Microsoft Word Format abstract/proposal to the following by e-mail (preferred), mail, or fax before June 30, 2008. Proposals should include:
- Paper title
- Name(s) of principal author(s) and organization(s)
- Whether you propose to submit a complete paper or only a PowerPoint presentation
- Primary point of contact, address, telephone and facsimile numbers, and e-mail address
- Text providing sufficient detail for the Technical Papers Committee to perform a review. The text should include a problem statement or introduction, an outline of the key points to be made in the paper, and conclusions or recommendations
ALL PAPERS/PRESENTATIONS WILL BE SUBMITTED ELECTRONICALLY. Selected authors will be notified by in July 2008. Draft papers for review will be due in September of 2008.
