Dear ASNE Flagship Member,              24 August 2007

Greetings,

This is our First Flagship Newsletter designed to update you on 2007 and 2008 happenings.  I will send them quarterly or more often if needed

My name is Sheldon Johnson and I am the Flagship Chairman for the FY Operating year of 2008.

Call me at 202-203-6371 if you are interested in joining a committee or just attending a meeting.  FLAGSHIP Section Meetings are held every month at lunch (provided) at convenient to reach BAE Systems at 80 M Street and only last 1-1 ˝ hours max.  BAE Systems is easily reached by Metro Green line to Navy Yard and exit at New Jersey Ave.  Turn right and walk a short way to 80 M St.

The Student Papers Night.  The dinner was held on 30 April 2007 at the Washington Navy Yard Catering and Conference Center where students from the US Naval Academy presented the results of their academic design projects.  Over 30 people attended the dinner.  Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Virginia Tech community.

The Technology Transition Workshop.  The workshop was held 1 May 2007 at the Washington Navy Yard Catering and Conference Center.  The meeting was a great success with over 60 people attending.  Mr. Mike O’Neal, SEA 06, chaired the Technical Committee for this workshop.  Special thanks go to him and his committee.  Captain Mike Good, PMS 420, PM for the LCS PM Mission Modules, stated that he would like to do a LCS Mission Module 2 day National Symposium this summer.  This will be a good opportunity for ASNE Flagship members to volunteers for the committee needed to put the Symposium together.

Second Annual ASNE Golf Outing.  The golf outing was held on 2 May 2007 at Andrews AFB with 72 golfers teeing off in a shotgun start.  The weather was perfect and scores were low.  Flagship plans to hold the event again next year and would like to see more golfers to have even more fun.

NAVY Shipbuilding Challenges.  On May 22nd:2007 Ms. Allison Stiller DASN, (Research, Development and Acquisition) Ship Programs presented a talk on Shipbuilding Challenges at the Washington Navy Yard Catering Center to over 50 attendees.

Section of the Year.  ASNE Flagship and Tidewater Sections tied for the Section of the Year Award for 2006-2007 and we each have our own banner now.

Membership.  Let us strive for each Flagship member to bring in two new members for the year 2007-2008.

Technical Program and Symposia.  The following is our planned schedule so far this coming year.  Please mark you calendars accordingly.  My next news letter will have the planned Technical Symposia.

I am pleased to announce the commencement of the technical sessions for ASNE Flagship Section 2007-2008.  The Flagship Council stands ready to serve you as we work to the mutual benefit of the Society and the Naval Engineering profession by sharing the lessons of experience and the results of professional study.

We look forward to continuing the Flagship section’s tradition of excellence.  I look forward to working with you in that tradition.
