The
Membership Committee would like to share some of the goals we have set for
this year in the area of membership and outreach. We shall work to gain new members to the section. Our future is in the strength our
community. While we are committed to
maintaining our existing active membership, we aspire to recruit more young
members, students and new graduates, to our ranks. Please invite your colleagues and new hires
to our meetings. We will make it a
special point to recognize each at our meeting and introduce them to our
membership. We will continue to offer
a free one year membership to entry level applicants. A key point to remember is that an
engineering degree is not required.
ASNE is open to any member actively engaged in the practice of naval
engineering or who are especially interested in the practice of naval
engineering (Associate Membership). We shall work to introduce our profession and society to
the college students of our area. We
already have a strong student chapter affiliated with our section at the
United States Naval Academy in Annapolis under the guidance of Dr. Jennifer
Waters. We are eager to invite the
engineering students from the greater Washington area especially the
midshipmen from the George Washington University NROTC unit that consists of
students from GWU, Georgetown University, Howard University, The Catholic
University of America, and University of Maryland. We also seek to introduce the profession of Naval
Engineering to the youth of our area.
In concert with our technical theme for this year, our “Challenge in
Future Naval Engineering” is educating and training aspiring engineers. The Washington area has strong school
systems with talented instructors and teachers. We can help them expose students to our
profession and provide mentorship on a pathway towards an academic avenue
that may otherwise be overlooked. Doug Donegan, our Membership Committee
Chairman, welcomes any suggestions on means to achieve these objectives. Please share your thoughts and ideas,
together we are confident our membership can accomplish all of these and
more. |
