Description:
Corrosion control is an expensive and persistent problem for surface ships, costing the US Navy over $3B per year to maintain the fleet. Studies show that some commercial ships using duplex zinc coatings have reduced maintenance by up to 80%.

Metallic zinc coatings offer both barrier protection and cathodic protection to steel. The zinc coating acts like a sacrificial anode on every square inch of steel surface. Metallic zinc coatings also have excellent abrasion resistance and bond strength. This webinar will include research on the use of a metallic zinc base layer with a paint top coat. This ‘Duplex’ zinc coating is stronger than the sum of its parts. The paint adds an extra layer of barrier protection to the zinc, while the zinc protects the paint from underfilm corrosion at scratches and holes. This hour-long webinar will share the science behind duplex metallic zinc coatings and share studies of operational uses to show how this protection behaves in authentic maritime applications.
