CANCELLED

Dear Society members and patrons:

We regret canceling ABB's presentation to have been given on 20 JAN. Still, due to the high OMICRON infection rate, we feel this closure is in the best interest of maintaining the health of individuals.

We hope that ABB will consider a postponement when this pandemic fear ceases. In the meantime, we thank you for your support and interest in attending ABB's praiseworthy custodianship of our delicate environment. We look forward with optimism to your future attendance.

For now, our regrets,

V. Frank Colangelo, Chairman, Central Gulf Coast Section, ASNE

ABB the DECARBONIZATION SINGLE SOURCE  VENDORS and the AZIPOD  by Albert Simeon Whitehill Jr.

ABB Marine & Ports is at the forefront of driving the evolution of sustainable shipping. Electrical propulsion, data-driven decision support and integrated solutions for ship and shore from ABB are paving the way to a zero-emission marine industry, providing greater efficiency and reliability to shipowners, and preparing vessels to meet the demands of tomorrow. Decarbonization is the combined passion of ABB Marine and Ports.

Therefore, the presentation will begin with a short overview of the decarbonization strategies currently in use by ABB in the marine industry. Solutions discussed will include diesel electric with battery storage, diesel electric with shore power, battery electric and fuel cell electric.

Secondly the presentation will focus on one of ABB’s premier products the Azipod propulsion system. Azipod topics to be reviewed will include ice class operations, general operational efficiencies, maneuverability, reliability, and some of the Azipod history

Mr. Albert “Sim“ Whitehill is a graduate of the Pennsylvania State University, and has over 25 years of combined maritime and industry experience. Notably, in conjunction with Chevron, he developed and designed mooring arrangements for lightering operations off the coast of California. Albert worked with ABS to win approval to conduct U.W.I.L.D.’s with micro ROV’s. Additionally he was able to win ABS approval for robotic ballast tank inspection, eliminating one of the most hazardous manned operation in the shipping industry
