“Enterprise T&E – Adding Efficiency and Effectiveness to Meet the Requirements of the 21st Century”

The American Society of Naval Engineers (ASNE) Wallops Island Chapter of the Tidewater Section, in conjunction with the Surface Combat Systems Center (SCSC) Wallops Island VA, will host a one and one-half day Combat Systems Mini-Symposium at the Chincoteague Center in Chincoteague, VA on 17-18 May 2007. Chincoteague Island is a small resort community on Virginia’s Eastern Shore. For more information on this resort and activities at the neighboring Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge and the Assateague National Seashore go to the Chincoteague Chamber of Commerce website (www.chincoteaguechamber.com).

Theme. “Enterprise T&E – Adding Efficiency and Effectiveness to Meet the Requirements of the 21st Century.” CNO’s direction to reduce Test and Evaluation (T&E) costs has prompted the development of a cross-platform enterprise approach to conducting combat systems T&E on surface ships. This approach focuses on consolidating test requirements into an integrated test approach, maximizing the use of Modeling & Simulation (M&S), and minimizing the number of at sea events. SCSC, a NAVSEA Field Activity located at Wallops Island VA, currently provides AEGIS and Ship Self Defense System (SSDS) combat system facilities that support both land based and T&E events with ships operating in the VACAPES OPAREA. A DDG 1000 Engineering Test Center is currently under construction on Wallops Island.
