Hi ASNE DV,
The Greater Philadelphia SeaPerch and SeaGlide Challenge Team is seeking personnel who are certified divers to assist with the 2026 Greater Philadelphia SeaPerch and SeaGlide Challenge.
This would be an all-day commitment at the Kroc Center in Northeast Philadelphia (4200 Wissahickon Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19129) on March 27, 2026 (date tentative). Divers would be needed to assist in placing equipment at the bottom of a 6 foot pool starting roughly 7:00am (time tentative) and would be needed until the program ends at approximately 5:00pm (tentative).
This requires careful movement in the water and at times entry into the water with minimal surface disturbance. Divers may need to tread water for long periods of time and wetsuits and weight belts are encouraged as the pool heaters will be turned off for the event to minimize disturbance and divers may need to remain at the bottom of the pool for prolonged periods of time. Free diving is encouraged, but not required. Divers set up mission elements, untangle and retrieve vehicles, and reset mission elements after each run. Divers who are free diving may need to hold their breath for prolonged periods of time while accomplishing those tasks at or near the pool floor. Divers may be assisted by local Navy reserve unit divers (tentative). I want to set some strong expectations up front. From a professional Navy diver who has supported over the last several years, "Supporting the event is definitely more challenging than people think."
Food will be provided for all volunteers.
