2024 ASNE Tidewater Section Candidate Bios

 

 

ASNE, Tidewater Section, Secretary

Mike Connolly

Mike graduated the Navy’s Nuclear Power Program as an Electrical Operator and retired after 20 years of service as a Chief Petty Officer. He spent five years assigned to the USS Mississippi CGN-40, five years on USS Dwight D Eisenhower CVN-69 and three years onboard USS Harry S Truman CVN-75. While assigned to CVN-75 during its 2000-2001 COH, he worked as a liaison between the ship’s Reactor Department and NNSY scheduling and overseeing maintenance projects. His shore duty tours included SIMA Norfolk (Training LPO) from 1990-1992, Readiness Support Group (RSG) Norfolk (Spruance-class and Decom Type Desk Assistant, 1998-2000) and one tour as an NNPS instructor in Charleston SC.

Mike had been employed by AMSEC (radar and cable installation projects), and has just completed his 20th year of employment at Standard Calibrations (Sales Manager/Purchasing Manager, and now Outside Sales focusing on the government and commercial maritime markets). He has been a member of ASNE-Tidewater Chapter for three years.

Charles Doty

Chuck completed nuclear training (submarines) after the graduating from the Naval Academy. He transferred to Engineering Duty Officer and completed five industrial tours – three Shipyards, Supervisor of Shipbuilding Newport News and Ship Repair Facility Guam. He completed two fleet assignments: SUBLANT Maintenance Officer and at PACFLEET. After retiring from the Navy, Chuck worked for Oceaneering, GDIT, and McKean Defense/Noblis in Submarines, Carriers, LCAC and surface work. Chuck has a BS in Marine Engineering and a Masters in Nuclear Engineering.

Chuck has been an ASNE member since September 1988 and held two section officer positions (Charleston’s secretary 1988 – 1991) and Tidewater treasurer since 2021. He is also a member of the national Ways and Means and Audit committees and he continues to participate in Tidewater area symposia planning.
