FMMS-Hurricane Florence Update 5
Created by mccue@navalengineers.org on 9/25/2018 9:39:56 AM

Dear FMMS 2018 Registrant,

Many of you have likely begun your travel to FMMS 2018, and we are writing to extend our best wishes for safe and hassle free travels. If you are battling flight delays or cancellations, the following information may be of use. The Virginia Beach Convention Center is a reasonable cab, Uber, or Lyft ride from both Norfolk airport (ORF) and Newport News/Williamsburg airport (PHF). It is approximately a 90 minute drive from Richmond (RIC) and a 3.5 hour drive from Reagan (DCA) or Dulles (IAD) to Virginia Beach. There is also Amtrak service to Newport News, and less frequently Norfolk, both stations being a viable cab, Uber, or Lyft ride to the Virginia Beach Convention Center. Please refer to Amtrak's website for the latest storm-related train cancellations.

At present we have well over 1100 people registered, for FMMS 2018, and we are optimistic Hurricane Florence's impacts on the event will be minimal. We have been in contact with all three confirmed keynotes: Mr. Mark W. Honecker, SES; Executive Director and Chief of Staff, U.S. Fleet Forces Command; VADM Thomas Moore, USN; Commander, Naval Sea Systems Command; and VADM Michael McAllister, USCG; Deputy Commandant for Mission Support. All three have re-affirmed their intent to speak at FMMS 2018.

Specific agenda items which have been canceled due to preparations for the storm are:

  • Monday September 17: Table Top Exhibits at Mid-Atlantic Regional Maintenance Center
  • Monday September 17: USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) Ship Tour

Please refer to the FMMS app for the most up to date agenda. To download the FMMS app, please search on "ASNE" in the iOS App Store or Google Play, or visit https://attendify.com/app/e4ej8x/. With the app installed, you can then opt to "Join" the FMMS event. There is no cost for the ASNE app, but users are prompted to create a username and password, separate from that which you use on the ASNE website.

Should there be any risk to safety necessitating a change in plan, we will communicate with all registrants as quickly as possible via email, text message, social media, ASNE website, and the FMMS app. To help us communicate effectively with you, we encourage you to check and update, as needed, your email address and/or mobile number. To review and update your contact information, please log in to: https://www.navalengineers.org/Membership/Profile-Update.
