#ArcticDay
We are enthusiastic to announce a unique new event for ASNE. One of the most dynamic environments around the globe requiring the non-traditional naval engineering, the Arctic. This are requires the most unique engineers to design, build and test ships that operate in regions of great climatic change and harsh environments surrounded by ice. ASNE is proud to announce the First Arctic Day! A day to discuss Naval engineering challenges, operating challenges, and advancements in technology and innovation allowing mighty ships to traverse the world.

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are the key to making a professional society like ASNE run. From organizing committees for our numerous upcoming events, to award selections, to scholarships, to financial oversight, volunteers are at the heart of the society. Interested in volunteering? Join an ASNE committee to share your experiences and expertise, connect with members and collaborate with your colleagues on programs designed specifically for the naval engineering community - all while developing connections and experiences that will benefit you both personally and professionally. A summary of volunteer opportunities ison our website.

Speaking of volunteering, ASNE members with experience in early stage ship design are needed to serve as judges for the annual Lisnyk competition for Senior Ship Design projects which is a joint ASNE/SNAME program. This year we have 16 entries from eight different schools which will be submitted in mid-June. Judges are required to grade two entries initially in late June/early July and then possibly another one or two in late July in a second round. You also need to participate in one or two conference calls to discuss the results. The entries are diverse and interesting and this is a professionally rewarding opportunity to help the next generation of ship designers. If interested or if you need more information, please contact Sean Walsh atspwalsh54@verizon.net. More information on the competition can be foundhere.

Professional Development

From Kayaks to Carriers: Basics of Ship Design
This 4-module eCourse is designed to educate non-naval engineers on key issues in naval engineering. The course is open to technical and non-technical individuals with the goal of helping those without a background in naval engineering learn concepts specific to engineering of boats and ships; and the fundamentals of intact and damaged stability, maneuvering, towing, structures, and materials. Participants should have some knowledge of either the naval enterprise (e.g. non-technical support personnel) or be engineers from disciplines outside of naval engineering (e.g. a mechanical engineer who wishes to further their knowledge). Each module concludes with a 1-hour virtual classroom where participates interact with the instructor in real-time.
