James Deputy currently serves as the ASNE-Tidewater section scholarship committee chair. He has been an active ASNE-TW member since 2009, volunteering with local section and national events. And has served in other section and national roles, as ODU student chapter president, ODU student liaison, and National Membership Committee chair
He served for 20 years active duty enlisted in the United States Navy, as a Machinist’s Mate and Gas Turbine Technician Mechanical and retired in 2008, as a first class petty officer. He attended Old Dominion University and graduated with a bachelor’s science in Engineering Technology in 2010, Mechanical. Additionally, he volunteered with the City of Virginia Beach Department of Emergency Medical Services, as a Paramedic for 13 years.
He currently serves a United States Navy Port Engineer with Commander Surfaces Force Atlantic managing the life cycle maintenance for assigned amphibious vessel(s). He previous civilian roles have included: General Engineer, Supervisor Shipbuilding, Conversion, Repair, Newport News, Submarine Test Engineering and Nuclear Engineer, Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Nuclear Test Engineering,
