This Bylaws change is to afford the opportunity for the ASNE President to appoint a former ASNE Vice President as chair of the Nominating Committee - during an ASNE Election year when there is not a candidate for President. This proposal has been reviewed by ASNE Council, and the Council voted to bring the change forward for a vote by ASNE's membership. The following table summarizes the proposed changes.

Section 2.  Standing Committees

c. Nominating Committee.

(2) The Nominating Committee shall be appointed annually by the President and shall consist of at least ten members, with a Past President serving as Chairman during ASNE President Election cycles. A past Vice President may serve as Chairman during Election cycles when a Presidential candidate is not on the slate.  The Nominating Committee should include members from at least three different Sections.  The membership of the Nominating Committee should represent the broad interests of the Society as described in Article II.  The President shall not be a member of the Nominating Committee.  No more than three members may be reappointed for a second consecutive one-year term, nor shall the same Chairman serve as such in consecutive years.

The second change is to better manage membership status. Previous Bylaws language was written before members could sign up for on-line membership, or even credit card payment, when the majority of members paid by check. This Bylaws change will bring ASNE into the 21st Century in membership management.  ASNE will be sending out pre-expiration notices of membership status at the 60 and 30-day period before membership expiration -- versus currently where ASNE provides after the fact  post-membership expiration notifications.
