Thanks to NSWC Philadelphia leadership we hosted an engaging STEM program that included a career panel, break-out sessions, and a message from CNR RADM Lorin Selby.
LeTeisha Wright welcomed participants and described the day's activities. RADM Lorin Selby, Chief of Naval Research, provided his welcoming remarks. Then, four panelists from NSWC Philadelphia described their career experiences and advice for participants.
Widener University Robotics Team presented their work designing an amphibious robot.
Electronic Systems Simulation demonstration by Dr. John Suarez, Widener University
Dr. Suarez is a professor of Electrical Engineering at Widener University and an affiliated faculty in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at University of Delaware. He earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Princeton in 2012. Previously, Dr. Suarez shares "Research in our lab is all about applying electronics to solve state-of-the-art problems in communications and sensing." He is an engaging, thoughtful educator that prepares students for success in the classroom, on the lab bench and in future careers. His current research focuses are radio-frequency (RF) systems and the physics that make RF communication and sensing systems possible.
After students participated in the engaging STEM Expo, there was a follow-on Young Professional and Women STEM Advocates Mentoring Panel Discussion. Six inspirational women trailblazers, pioneers and role models shared their passions, experiences, and mentoring lessons learned with young naval engineering professionals and STEM Advocates.
