Title: Internet of Everything (IoE), Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology (OT)
Authors: Joe Beel, Reema Prasad, and Kelly Jones
Abstract: IoE is networked connection of people, process, data and things and provides tremendous opportunity to help the Navy reduce cost, increase efficiency and increase operational effectiveness.
IoE will allow enhanced prognostics and health management to automatically alert operators to deviation from expected parameters or degradation of expected performance and can even predict future system state allowing the operational commander to make well-informed decisions based on actual equipment performance and state. Maintenance can be optimized. IoE will enable remote monitoring to reduce exposure to hazardous conditions prevalent in machinery spaces.
Security solutions will bring increased automation to reduce operator workload and speed response. Commercial Next Generation Encryption capabilities can reduce system cost, installation cost and are part of a holistic approach to security that includes next network segmentation, generation network security, intrusion prevention, advanced malware protection, secure access, and mobility to protect data and networks before, during, and after an attack.
Advanced Cyber Security approaches will bridge IT and OT networks while ensuring availability of critical OT systems to ensure mission success.
