Title: Incorporating Tactical Energy Management into Current Ship Control Paradigms to Accommodate Electric Weapons

Authors: Nick Martin, Eric Schroeder, Dr. Jaclyn Baron, Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division

This paper introduces and details new readiness conditions for future Navy surface combatants consistingof multiple electric weapons whose performances depend on available energy. The body of this paperbegins with background on current machinery control systems (MCSs), which generate and controlelectrical power throughout warships. Then, readiness conditions and weapon postures are discussed toprovide background as to where TPCs may be integrated. Next, a conversation for what future MCSs andcombat systems will look like set the stage for the need of tactical energy management and TPCs.
